Letter from the Executive Director
Dec 2009
Anyone who has ever received a cancer diagnosis knows how important it is to have an experienced and skilled physician capable of providing state-of-the-art treatment. But we rarely pause to think about how these doctors are able to provide such care. Every diagnostic test, every drug and every therapy regimen is a direct result of cutting-edge research by the best scientists. In a way, the best doctors are standing on the shoulders of scientific giants.
These scientists have brought us a long way in our ability to treat cancer. Thanks to their work, millions are survivors. But we all know that more progress is urgently needed.
The role of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation is to identify and support outstanding young cancer researchers who can take our ability to prevent and cure cancer to a new level. These brilliant and fresh minds drive innovation, meeting the challenge of cancer in new ways. Your support directly seeds this innovation.
During 2009, Damon Runyon scientists continued to make important discoveries across the full spectrum of cancer research. Their laboratory work is accelerating our understanding of cancer every day. Their clinical trials offer new hope to patients and families who also bravely battle this disease.
Each year, we depend on the amazing generosity of our donors to fund our young researchers. They are today’s best young scientists and future leaders in cancer research. With budgets still tight, your gifts will have an even greater impact.
Many thanks for your support.
Sincerely,
Lorraine W. Egan
p.s. As always, 100% of your donation will directly support a Damon Runyon scientist. (Our overhead is paid from Damon Runyon Broadway Tickets and our endowment.)
