Damon Runyon identifies today’s most brilliant early career scientists and funds their innovative cancer research.

Renier J. Brentjens, MD, PhD
Dr. Brentjens [Damon Runyon-Lilly Clinical Investigator] investigates how patients’ immune systems can be directed to recognize and kill their own cancer cells. He is leading an innovative Phase I trial using patients' own genetically modified immune T cells to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). He is also initiating a related clinical trial to treat pediatric patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). These are patients for whom all other treatment options have been exhausted.
